Victoria, British Columbia is gorgeous when dusted in light and fluffy snow! I ought to have realized when I boarded the Victoria Clipper on my way to my Victoria Inn that visibility was going to be low and I would be arriving in a snow-filled wonderland. It is true that my favorite weather website predicted record breaking snow accumulation in Seattle; I really should have anticipated a decent accumulation of snow in Vancouver Island, but little did I know how much snow they would get! Victoria BC is truly a striking city and it was great to have experienced it in the winter.
A Ride on the Victoria Clipper
It was a little after 7:00 am when I finally got to the Victoria Clipper check-in counter. Because my trip to Victoria was in the "off season" there were not a lot of passengers, but during the warm months I could positively understand where getting there two hours before the Victoria Clipper's departure could help you get a better seat. I believe that your check in is correlated with where you get to sit given that the boarding call by what number your ticket is and do not have any designated seat number. In the Clipper there are some spacious table in the middle seats (so passengers can use their computer or drink coffee or eat breakfast/dinner) however there are a lot of rows of face-forward seats too. I recommend checking-in early so that you can feel assured you will be in the first 100 passengers to board and choose the more comfortable seats! Taken as a whole, my ride on the Clipper ferry was very comfortable and we docked in Victoria safe and sound.
Parliament Buildings - Victoria, British Columbia
Victoria's Parliament Buildings are located downtown and facing the beautiful harbor. It was so pretty so see the Parliament grounds coated with several inches of snow. Since the layers of snow were so new there were only a few footprints in the snow so it made some very pretty pictures. The Parliament Buildings are distinctly baroque and very elegant; they were finished in 1898. The buildings host the Speaker, Bill Barisoff, and BC's Legislative Assembly.
The beauty of the Inner Harbour
Victoria's Inner Harbour is a very active marine and metro area that feeds into the Strait of Juan de Fuca. The elegant buildings in the harbor district create a very pleasing panorama particularly when covered in snow! When I was there, there was even a flock of Canadian geese foraging in a snowy embankment on the shore; it was an appropriate scene! I also got to watch some seaplanes landing, which is an interesting thing to watch. While walking around I also stumbled upon the Royal Canadian Navy monument which had some really nice bronze statues; worth taking a look.

My Victoria accommodation was awesome during the snowy weather! They were right across from any open field that I got to make snow angels in and play in the snow. Check out locally owned Accent Inns the next time you are visiting Victoria!
